Long before the invention of writing,
the printing press, typewriter
and keyboard,
ancient Hebrews chanted:
In the Beginning God created
the heavens and the earth.
Their story of the Great I Am
was a poem, and the poem was God,
a verb whooshing through
a black universe, creating a world
and a people infused with love
though they would forget
they are embedded in creation,
responsible for it
and each other.
First things first.
With my pencil in hand
I marvel at the light
dappling my slice of Eden
with sunshine,
this bright blue morning.
First Things First

Such a beautiful meditation on language and noticing the beauty that is always near at hand..
Thank you, Ellen! It was a poem that felt good to write, sitting at my breakfast table with light pouring in.
Your poem pulls me into the love I have for creation and being. Thank you!
Marya, what a lovely comment! I am grateful that it resonated with you. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
