I went to visit my mother by the sea
finding her there talking with the rooks and gulls
pale body shimmering with a bold delight
I went with my children to the near mountains
Riding in the back seat like a child myself
Crags, living streams, ancient woods, fog and mayhem
Walking to town from my farm in the country
took me days; I slept in fields and woodlands deep
watching the country change, nature emerging
as if from a long and dangerous travail
awake alive and green, as grey fox crossed
the stream and sat, listening
Singing a blessing to all I have married
I went along bold capricious and weary
Following the fox following the bright song
Lovely piece! Thank you for bringing us into nature with you. I especially loved “Crags, living streams, ancient woods, fog and mayhem” … I love the crags and snags, the dead silvered things lying alongside the new green ones.
