While meditating in a chair,
gently place both feet on the floor.
Your back straight, head level, shoulders square.
Here’s a tip: Keep your eyes open.
Create a bowl in your lap by resting
your open left hand in your right palm,
with the tips of your thumbs pressed together.
Now count your breaths.
When you count up to ten, start again.
When you get distracted, start again.
Try to hold your posture.
Sit like a stone.
Try not to think of what you did today,
or what you’ll do tomorrow …
not that you really ever know!
That right there was a Buddhist joke.
Let’s begin.
So grateful to have my poem here alongside so many other moving and poignant words.
