There is just no perfect formula
that accounts for love.
No mathematics or proofs apply.
Take the exponential devotion of a parent
for their child— its geometry so compelling
we angle toward our offspring in wonder,
or the theorem of how we connect
easily with some strangers, not a simple
equation that adds up rationally.
Multiplication and addition
cannot sufficiently explain love.
Think about love as the principal factor
in forgiveness, can we count on
the probability of this logic
to calculate a much-desired release?
Love is a variable, the algorithm
unknown, an abstract
that calibrates in a nanosecond—
a shaft of heavenly light through trees,
the piercing eyes of an osprey
peering straight into my heart.
Super job, Carolyn. I’ve been working on that math for years and find that multiplication works better than division.
